ONSITE: Build a Creature Box

Learn to hand-build your own ceramic box and explore a hollow form technique to create an animal or creature to incorporate into your piece. Students will be inspired to move away from traditional, utilitarian handles and explore new forms and ideas. We’ll discuss size and proportion to make sure your finished pieces work as a unit. You’ll also expand your knowledge of various ways to finish the surface of your piece.

Special Notes

  • This class includes all clay needed. Students will underglaze work, and items can be picked up at a later date.

About the Instructor

Stephen Palmer

I received my B.F.A. from Rhode Island College, and continued my study of sculpture in Italy at the Tuscan Renaissance Center. As a member of the South County Art Association in RI and now at City Clay, in Charlottesville, VA, I continue to explore the many forms and function of clay. Through teaching, I hope to share and ignite the same passion and excitement in my students that I have for the ceramic form.
