About the Studio
VisArts’ wood studio is a full functioning, state of the art workspace that is built to facilitate a wide variety of projects.
Tools and Equipment
VisArts’ wood studio is equipped with:
- Six workbenches
- Chop saw
- Two band saws
- Drill press
- SawStop table saw
- Lathe – not available during open studio
- Drum Sander – not available during open studio
The wood studio boasts a ventilation system, which connects to the equipment as well as the work areas. Toolkits are reserved for students. Various hand tools (chisels, coping saws, planers) and power tools (hand drills, jigsaws, and sanders) are available for use. The studio also has a limited supply of safety equipment, including goggles and ear protection.
Wood is provided to currently enrolled students. All other studio users must provide their own wood. Reclaimed, treated and wet wood are not allowed in the studio.
All open studio users have access to a scrap bin, glue and sandpaper.

These hours are for the winter session, which runs from January 2 through March 18. Please note that there are no open studio hours past 5 p.m. on First Fridays. Times are subject to change.
Students must use adequate eye protection and safety precautions while operating power tools. Proper ventilation must be utilized when using power tools and large equipment.
The studio should be left as clean or cleaner than you found it; all wood shavings and cuttings should be swept up and properly disposed of. All projects in progress should be stored or taken home. Please put away all tools and equipment and check in with the monitor before you leave.
