Classes

ONSITE: Introduction to Cyanotypes

Learn about the cyanotype process and how to integrate this alternative photography process into a variety of media. The cyanotype process uses UV light and non-toxic materials to print photographic images on a variety of surfaces. We will learn how to coat and print cyanotypes on paper first. Then we'll discuss conceptualizing and creating imagery for your pieces. You'll be encouraged to explore techniques like printing cyanotypes on other materials like wood or fabric and toning your cyanotypes to produce color variations.

Special Notes

  • Students are encouraged to have interest and experience in either printmaking and/or photography. The chemicals we work with in the process are toxic only if ingested. Limited materials will be provided, and it will be encouraged that students bring materials, images, and objects to use.

This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
