ONSITE: Glass Fusing + Slumping Intensive: Using Frits + Powders

Learn how to use glass frits and powders to produce new shapes, layer color, and achieve more painterly and detailed effects.

  • This class does not meet on 7/4.
    Prerequisite: Available to students with basic glass skills to advanced. This class is not geared for beginners. General studio materials are supplied with the materials fee, but glass will be charged to the student based on how much they use.


    Instructor speaks Spanish, but the class is held in English.
    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
    This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
About the Instructor

Jude Schlotzhauer

Jude Schlotzhauer is a full time studio glass artist with a BFA in painting and an MFA in glass working. In addition to teaching glass kiln working at VCU for over 25 years, she has taught as a visiting artist at many universities and art centers throughout the country and in Mexico and Malaysia. Her work is in many private and corporate collections, including Capitol One, Verizon and Chesapeake Capitol Corp. Her public art commissions are installed locally at MCV, Randolph Community Center, Fire Station 16, Childrens’ Museum, and VCU dining center, and as far away as a Marine Officers complex in Japan.
