ONSITE: Create a Hand-Built Tequila Set

In this workshop the student will learn about hand building a Tequila Set. They will learn different ways of finishing the surface of the piece using stencils and layering underglaze colors on the clay to create a dynamic surface design. We will discuss size and proportion in the class to ensure the pieces work as a whole unit. Students must have a working knowledge of hand-building techniques.

Special Notes

  • Student will need to bring underglazes, stencils, pottery tools, fettling knife, and slip.

This class includes all clay needed. Students will pick up their finished pieces at a later date. This class does not include a clear glaze firing, only underglaze bisque firing.

This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.

About the Instructor

Stephen Palmer

I received my B.F.A. from Rhode Island College, and continued my study of sculpture in Italy at the Tuscan Renaissance Center. As a member of the South County Art Association in RI and now at City Clay, in Charlottesville, VA, I continue to explore the many forms and function of clay. Through teaching, I hope to share and ignite the same passion and excitement in my students that I have for the ceramic form.
