Oakwood Arts + VisArts Creativity Kits
Creativity Kits for Youth in our Community
In collaboration with the Richmond Public Schools community engagement team, Oakwood Arts and the Visual Arts Center of Richmond are working together to assemble and design arts-focused activity kits to give to students and families at local RPS food distribution sites. Each Creativity Kit includes art supplies as well a set of K-5 and teen art lessons designed to help students stay connected to the RPS curriculum and engaged with the visual arts at home.
Teaming up with local artists and educators, kids will receive new kits every week with lessons related to specific Virginia Standards of Learning and that highlight different creative careers and contemporary artists. Students are encouraged to share their final projects on social media using the hashtag #rvacreativitykit. Students can also stay up to date with the lessons for each week on the Oakwood Arts and VisArts websites and download them below!
Together, we can make this time a little less uncertain for kids by continuing to engage them in creative activities. Let’s work together to support the kids and families of our community!
Creativity Kit FAQs:
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ENSURE THE KITS ARE SAFE TO DISTRIBUTE?
Oakwood Arts + VisArts staff are strictly following the CDC’s recommendations to avoid transmission by staying home if feeling ill, washing hands, wearing gloves and masks when assembling kits, keeping at least six feet of distance between staff when assembling, disinfecting all surfaces and waiting two days before dropping off the kits for distribution.
