The Visual Arts Center of Richmond is pleased to present What We Share, an exhibition of work by the Annual Artists-in-Residence at VisArts in 2024–2025. Since September, Doah Lee, Evie Metz, April Sopkin, and Luis Vasquez La Roche have been working throughout VisArts’ studios to develop new work, learn new processes, and engage with the community.
The title, What We Share, has two meanings. First, it alludes to the familiar internal negotiation of “What will I disclose about myself at this moment?” Also, it’s an acknowledgment that our ability to transform our response to this query over time is something we have in common. Across interdisciplinary creative practices, the artists negotiate how to present oneself in response to the circumstances of geographic location, global history, personal identity, loss, and a need for daily well-being. This show, guest-curated by Sarah Irvin, offers points of connection for what we share in our common ability to adapt to shifting environments.
