ONSITE: Hydraulic Forming

In this introduction to hydraulic forming workshop we will learn to safely use the hydraulic press. Lining up our metal and the prefabricated die forms available in the studio with Urethane pads we will bring dimension to our metal jewelry designs. We will also cover making our own forms from Plexiglass sheets and pressing base metals. You may bring silver if you choose. This will be a how to/technique based class.

Special Notes

  • Students need to have experience using the torch and sawing with a jewelers saw to register for this class. Please wear comfortable clothing. This will be a hands on workshop. Closed toe shoes are required. Feel free to bring any metals or forms you want to try pressing. and your own safety glasses or shield. You will also want a mask for cutting plexiglass.

    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

  • Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined by our website. For more info visit visarts.org. This is an On-site course. About the Instructor

Jeannine Metzfield

Jeannine's spirited creativity turned to metalsmithing in 2002. She has studied Metals at Virginia Commonwealth University, The Visual Arts Center, Arrowmont and Penland School of Crafts. She currently teaches metalsmithing at The Visual Arts Center, and to private clients. In her studio she is inspired by the beauty and strength of nature. In her classes she promotes caring for the earth by sharing ethical practices. Jeannine is featured at Fan Frame and Fine Art on Robinson and, 43rd St Gallery in Forest Hill.
