Linocut Printmaking: Wintry Scenes – New! (Adults and Youth 15+ with a Registered Adult)
Perfect for the holiday season! Learn to use Speedy-Carve blocks (soft linoleum) to create relief prints depicting a wintery scene. We will cover tips for drawing, transferring the design to the block, carving, inking, and hand printing an edition of prints. You may swap prints with your classmates and leave the weekend with an instant art collection of winter themed prints!
Special Notes
This class is wheelchair accesible through an exterior door- the interior entrance has two steps.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. If under 18, student must be accompanied by a registered adult. Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
About the Instructor
Grace Mae Huddleston
Grace Mae Huddleston (she/they) is a multi-media artist and educator based in Richmond, VA. She has taught for 10 years in community centers, schools, and universities. As an educator, Grace empowers adults and teens of all skill levels to deepen their connection to art making. Her teaching emphasizes skill building and creativity, and she loves it when students put personality into their creations! Grace primarily teaches all things 2D, including drawing, painting, and mixed media. She also has experience leading workshops on textile art and creative writing.
In her own art practice, Grace creates colorful drawing, painting, and textiles. Nature is her main inspiration, but art history, film, and comics also influence her work. She has shown and published her art in contexts ranging from zines and academic journals, to punk cafes and formal concert halls, as well as galleries and museums. Grace is a recipient of the Russell Foundation Grant and the VCUarts Inclusive Grant.
