Introduction to Woodworking: Make a Modern Stool

Transform rough-cut lumber into a modern stool. You’ll learn to use a table saw, planer, router and a variety of hand tools.

  Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength.   This class is physically intensive - it requires standing and pushing wood through power tools with some amount of strength. There are lots of repeated motions that require a fairly high degree of dexterity for proper usage. Eyesight and attention are also critical for safety. In this class you will lift and move around medium to large pieces of wood.
  Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

About the Instructor

Mauricio Vargas

Mauricio is an interdisciplinary artist based out of Richmond, Virginia. His work spans a variety of topics, from public art and media theory, to ancestral knowledge and climate justice. Often in dialogue with his Colombian-American heritage, the outcome is a practice that dances between fact and fiction through text, artifacts, and community engagement.
