Introduction to Woodblock Printing
Woodblock printing is humanity’s oldest printmaking process. You’ll learn to design and transfer an image onto the block and cut the block to produce a relief image. Then we’ll cover how to transfer the image to paper, both printing it by hand and by press.
- All materials provided.
- A lunch break will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch.
- Please note that for weekend workshops occurring on both Saturday and Sunday: Saturday classes run from 10 AM - 4 PM, Sunday classes run from 1 - 4 PM.
About the Instructor
Dennis R. Winston is a Virginia artist and educator. He is a graduate of Norfolk State University (magna cum laude) and the University of Richmond (Masters of Humanities) and has done post-graduate work at the University of Colorado and Virginia Commonwealth University. Winston has received honors both locally and nationally as an artist and as an educator. He has been included in a videotape collection and CD-Rom collection entitled, “African-American Artists: Past and Present,” and was recently featured in Virginia Adversaria: Art, Literature and Compelling Interviews magazine. His work can be found in many private and public collections. He has been awarded a public arts commission from the City of Richmond and an artist fellowship award from the Virginia Commission of the Arts for works on paper.
