Exploring Champlevé Enameling
Delve into the fascinating world of Champlevé enameling, a traditional technique where recessed areas of metal are filled with vibrant enamel. In this class, you will learn how to design recessed areas into metal surfaces and apply enamel to create stunning, colorful works of art. At the end of class, you will have one finished small piece of jewelry to take home.

Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Metal and jewelry classes may produce loud noises. Students who are sensitive to noises may want to wear ear protection.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
Instructor speaks Chinese and beginning level Korean, but the class is held in English.
About the Instructor
Yifei Kong
Yifei Kong is a jeweler, metalsmith, and enamelist based in Richmond, Virginia. She was born on October 26th, 1995, in Beijing, China. She received her BFA in Metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz, NY, in 2022 and her MFA in Craft and Material Studies from VCU, in 2024.
