About classes
VisArts employs the greatest number of visual artists in the state of Virginia, with more than 220 instructors teaching for the organization. Every year, we offer more than 1,600 visual and creative arts classes in clay, wood, fiber, painting, photography, printmaking, glass, metal, drawing, writing, decorative arts, and other visual media. Whether you’re looking for a beginner or advanced class, a quick weekend workshop or a multi-week commitment—VisArts has something for any artist at any experience level.
To ensure that our classes really are for everyone, we provide financial aid to adults and families on a sliding scale basis. Financial aid can reduce the cost of a VisArts class by up to 95%!
Registration
Each season—winter, spring, summer, and fall—VisArts releases hundreds of new and tried-and-true classes. Roughly a month and a half before each session, VisArts opens these classes for enrollment. With an active VisArts membership, you’ll get early access to register and the best chance at snagging a seat in VisArts’ most coveted classes.

New Way to Register
In early 2026, VisArts launched a new class registration system to improve our students’ online experience. The smoothest and fastest way to enroll in a class on registration day is to ensure you have logged in to your new account and have added classes to your wishlist.
Please note
- If you are registering for other members of your household (e.g., a child or spouse), you must be sure to add those household members to your account. This is especially important to remember when registering your kids for ArtVenture Summer Camp. This helps ensure that all students register for age-appropriate classes. Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up an account and adding household members.
- If you had an active memberships in our old system, those benefits do not automatically transfer when you first activate a new account in Amilia. You should have received an email between January – February 2026 with instructions on how to activate your existing membership.
