Classes

Sundials for Round-Earthers (Limited Offering) – New!

Throw away your watches! Over the course of this class, we design, prototype, field test, and fabricate a sundial for your yard, wall, or rooftop. We will learn about historical approaches to time-keeping, and learn how to calculate an accurate dial based on our position on the globe. We will cross craft disciplines in our pursuit of the perfect looking dials, with opportunities to 3D print, work in wood, and cast concrete. We might be spinning in circles, but we're making good time!

Special Notes

  • This class can accommodate all skill levels and budgets. All purchasing of materials is flexible, as there are many ways to creatively construct a sundial.

Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to [email protected] with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.
Students will be on their feet most of the time. Mixing silicone and concrete with a hand drill can be a little tiring on the arms.
Paid studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
