Code of Conduct
Visual Arts Center of Richmond’s Code of Conduct
At the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts), we are committed to protecting the safety and well-being of all people. To do this, we ask that every member of our community (in-person and online) adheres to our Code of Conduct. People who violate our Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the Visual Arts Center of Richmond or blocked from our digital channels and may be restricted from future participation.
VisArts does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, age, religion or religious creed, disability or handicap, sex or gender, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy or related conditions, marital or familial status, military or veteran status, citizenship, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal, state, or local law.
We have a zero-tolerance policy against threats or intimidation, stalking, bullying or verbal abuse, gestures of a violent or inappropriate nature, sexual harassment, physical assault, or any other behavior that creates a hostile environment in our spaces or online.
Be kind and courteous to everyone, and follow instructions issued by staff, teachers, and studio monitors.
Disruptive behavior that distracts from learning, art-making, or the VisArts’ day-to-day operations is not allowed.
Respect our space. Vandalism or theft of studio equipment or materials will be prosecuted and may result in removal from programs.
Park in our parking lots at your own risk. VisArts is not responsible for any damage to vehicles.
We’ve got a lot of kids in and out of the building. Keep your clothing and personal effects free of obscene or vulgar images or messages.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for firearms—leave your guns at home. We’re a weapons-free facility. This includes firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other dangerous or replica weapons, except as permitted by law for on‑duty law enforcement.
No illegal drugs are allowed anywhere on VisArts’ property. Being under the influence of illegal drugs, or misusing controlled substances, while participating in programs is prohibited.
Alcohol is sometimes offered at special events but is otherwise not allowed in the building. It is not allowed in the studios, and public intoxication is never okay. When alcohol is offered, consumption is limited to designated areas and times and only to guests of legal drinking age.
Smoking, vaping, and the use of e‑cigarettes are not permitted in the building or within 25 feet of any entrance.
Always obey local, state, and federal laws.
If you experience or witness a safety concern or violation of this Code, promptly notify a staff member, teacher, or front desk. You can contact VisArts’ HR team at [email protected], executive director at [email protected], or front desk at [email protected] or (804) 353-0094. Retaliation against anyone who makes a good‑faith report is prohibited.
