2007-08 Artventure Classes
Artventure is a visual arts program that encourages individual expression and provides children and teens unique opportunities to work directly with professional artists and experience professional equipment and materials. Artists teach weekend and after-school classes throughout the school year, and special classes are designed to accommodate the schedule of homeschool students.
All Artventure classes are taught at the Visual Arts Center, 1812 West Main Street, in Richmond's Fan District near Virginia Commonwealth University. Tuition for Artventure classes includes materials, unless otherwise noted in the class description.

Art After School
The Visual Arts Center of Richmond's Art After School program opens doors and encourages self-discipline, focus, and creative exploration for students in selected Richmond Public middle and elementary schools. Each year, partnering schools and organizations are selected to participate in Art After School classes, which are taught at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond free of charge through the generous support of corporations and foundations. Partnering organizations and schools may contact Sally Kemp for information regarding eligibility for these classes.
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards 2008
The Visual Arts Center of Richmond is proud to serve as the Regional Affiliate for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2008. This program, which involves students in grades 7-12 throughout the Richmond region, recognizes the outstanding work of young artists and writers in our community. Informational materials are provided to art and writing teachers in public, private, and parochial school systems in September 2007. Participating counties include Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico and Powhatan, and the City of Richmond. Students work with instructors to complete an online registration process and to submit entries by December 14, 2007. The Richmond Regional Exhibition and Awards program is scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2008. Please see regional and national guidelines information below. Contact Sally Kemp for additional information. Online registration is required and can be found at www.artandwriting.org.

YAS – Young Artists Society
The Young Artists Society was initiated in 2004 with the purpose of providing opportunities for greater exploration and expression in art and writing for high school students. Students from public, private and home schools are selected each fall through an application process and are chosen for their artistic ability and passion for involvement in the arts. A membership fee covers the cost of year-round activities, which include workshops for portfolio development, exhibition artists' talks, First Friday Art Walks and public art installments.
