ONSITE: Fabric Printing with Dye

Explore the wonderful world of fabric printing with dye creating incredible color depth and infinite design possibilities. Learn the basics of textile repeat printing, how to mix fiber reactive dyes into a print paste, how to make and print with stencils, use texture plates, and make and print stamps, all while honing your compositional skills. Students will leave with several printed lengths of custom fabric.

  • All materials provided. Please wear studio shoes and clothing; the dyes used in this class are permanent. You are encouraged to bring a bag lunch.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

About the Instructor

Julia Pfaff

A recent receipt of a Professional Artist Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art and with an undergraduate degree in art history and a MFA in textiles, Julia has been quilting her entire life. She is a studio artist and has successfully turned a family tradition into a contemporary art form. She teaches at both the community and college level. Julia’s hand dyed and printed quilts have been exhibited extensively and can be found in numerous national publications and collections. During class you can ask her about working in Egypt, Greece, and Jordan as an archaeological technical artist.
