ONSITE: Exploring Ceramic Relief Sculpture

Learn handbuilding, sculpting and carving techniques to make bas-relief, or low-relief, ceramic sculptures and tiles. Get creative with miniature scenes, landscapes, carved animals and more! We'll create works for wall display discuss hanging options and methods for your final pieces.

Special Notes

  • Students should come to class with their own needle tool, scoring tool, red rubber rib.

    You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.

    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

    No class 4/3.

    This instructor speaks Spanish, but the class is held in English.

    This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. For more info visit visarts.org. About the Instructor

Merenda Cecelia

Merenda Cecelia lives in Richmond, Va. She is an artist and state certified art educator with extensive experience in mosaic work including several large installations. She has taught for 12 years in a variety of settings including public and private schools, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and The Visual Arts Center since graduating with a BFA in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also works at the VMFA planning large community events, and when she is not doing that you can find her in the yoga studio or playing in creeks with her son.
