ONSITE: Craft Practice: Sensory Exploration in Fiction and Nonfiction
For writers of fiction or nonfiction:Learn to pull the reader into your work by combining sensory and active description. Deepen your evocative sensory practice through progressive writing prompts that incorporate the five senses. Come prepared to write on the spot.
Special Notes
- Students will need tools for writing in class, such as laptop/tablet, notebook, pens, etc, as well as internet access to receive assigned reading material outside of class.Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. About the Instructor
April Sopkin
April Sopkin writes fiction and personal essays. She has been awarded a 2023 Elizabeth George Foundation grant to fund the completion of her short story collection. Her work has appeared in Joyland, Black Telephone Magazine, MIT Technology Review, Carve, Southern Indiana Review, and elsewhere. She was a 2019 Tin House Scholar and her work has won the Raymond Carver Short Story Contest, the Patricia Aakhus Award, and the Frank McCourt Memoir Prize. April’s work has also been supported by fellowships and artist residencies, including the Tin House Summer Workshop, TENT: Creative Writing at the Yiddish Book Center, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
