ONSITE: Blacksmithing Holly + Ivy: Exploring Leaf Forms in Iron

Explore the basics of blacksmithing. You'll learn to forge metal leaves, which are a common decorative element in blacksmith work. This class will guide students through forging multiple leaf styles – including the holly and the ivy.

Special Notes

  • Please wear natural fiber clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and work shoes or boots. Eye and hearing protection will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Bring Drinking Water. Flannel is not reccomended. All materials provided. If under age 18, must also register with an adult.

    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

    This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.


About the Instructor

Jerry Veneziano

Jerry Veneziano has been a blacksmith for most of his adult life. He began his career doing historic reproductions as one of the smiths at Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg, VA. Today, he produces contemporary and sculptural ironwork that has been featured in galleries and museums along the East Coast.
