Natural Dyeing of Yarn + Fabric
Learn to prepare readily available plant materials as well as several “exotics” in order to dye your own yarn and cloth. We’ll place an emphasis on using natural ingredients and safe mordants. We’ll also discuss the amazing history of dyeing as we make 8 to 10 types of dye vats, including indigo. You’ll go home with several skeins of colorful yarns or yardage, as well as dye baths for later use.
- Some undyed white cloth will be provided but students should also bring their own natural fiber yarns and cloth for dying projects (100% cottons, wool, linen, hemp and other natural fibers are acceptable).
- Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
