Natural Dyeing of Yarn + Fabric
Learn to select and prepare locally harvested plant materials to dye your own yarn and cloth. We’ll learn how to identify the right dye plants and safely mordant them, then we’ll make twelve to fourteen types of dye vats, including indigo. You’ll go home with several, ready-to-use yarns or yardage, as well as dye baths for later use.
- Some undyed white cloth will be provided but students should also bring their own natural fibers and cloth for dying projects (100% cottons, wool, linen, hemp and other natural fibers are acceptable).
- Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
