Introduction to Flame Working

Learn to manipulate glass into three-dimensional forms. Working with borosilicate glass, we’ll cover a variety of flame-working techniques including shaping, bending, and fusing glass rods and tubing.

Special Notes

  • All materials and equipment provided. Wear clothing made of natural fibers to class.
About the Instructor

Jack Alden

Jack worked with glass for the first time in St. Petersburg, Florida under Dave Walker and Josh Poll. Soon after, he began learning about Chihuly glass, and sharing his knowledge as a docent at the Chihuly Collection. After his first time at Penland School of Crafts studying with Micah Evans, he moved to Richmond, Virginia where he took a position as Teachers Assistant for Christopher McElroy. Shortly after arriving, Jack opened a flame working studio where he rented space and taught lessons. After graduating from VCU, he continues to work with glass and push his artwork forward.
