Tuition Assistance for Adults

At VisArts, it’s part of our mission to ensure people of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels can explore the visual arts and live creative lives. While we do our best to keep our classes affordable and priced competitively, we understand that they are still out of reach for some adults in our community.

To ensure that our art classes really are for everyone, we created the Tuition Assistance Fund. Individuals can submit an application and we scale the cost of the class based on their income level.

How to Apply

Anyone over 18 years old can apply. There’s an online application form, as well as a paper application you can pick up at our front desk. As part of your application, we ask you to provide a copy of your most recent tax return as proof of income.  If you do not have a tax return, we can also accept benefit statements, unemployment benefit letters and proof of employment as proof of income.

After receiving your application, we determine how much assistance we can provide. We accept applications on a rolling basis. You can expect a reply within 10-14 business days. This means we will need your application three weeks prior to the start date of the class to get you enrolled and reserve your seat. We recommend applying even earlier since many of our classes can fill quickly.

We try to meet the needs of all successful applicants. The table below indicates the tuition discount you can expect to receive if your application is selected, but we reserve the right to modify these discounts as needed.

Applications will be limited to receive assistance to one class per session.

We try to match all successful applicants with their first choice class, but in some cases we may only be able to provide tuition assistance for an alternate class.

Questions about the program should be directed to our director of education and programs.
