About the Studio
VisArts’ metal studio is a multi-purpose space that allows for many different metal-working techniques such as casting, soldering, enameling and more. The studio has 12 benches at which students can work, in addition to four soldering stations and a polishing and grinding station. The studio is also home to a small jewelry kiln and casting furnace. Basic metalworking tools are available for student use.
During open studio hours, students are welcome to use basic tools, the benches and the soldering stations. However, the kiln and casting furnace are not to be used outside of class or without the supervision of an instructor. Tools are kept in a locked storage cabinet; check out the key at VisArts’ front desk.
The studio should be left as clean or cleaner than you found it; all metal shavings and cuttings should be swept up, and all work in progress should be taken home. Please put away all tools, and remember to return the key to the front desk. If you have used a soldering station, please remember to check that you’ve turned off the gas supply.
