About the Studio
At VisArts, we’re proud of our letterpress studio—the only public studio space of its kind in the area. The space includes a variety of type for type-set work as well as four presses:
- A 100-year-old platen press
- An electric-powered Challenge press
- A table-top proof press
- A standing proof press
During open studio hours, you may use the studio to type-set but you may not use the presses to print. Printing must take place during class time or under the supervision of an instructor.
Students are expected to store their type-set work in the studio, and after printing, redistribute all type. The studio should be left clean or cleaner than you find it; put paper away neatly, label all in-process projects and store them on a galley in the galley cabinet and store prints on the drying rack.
Open Studio will be closed for maintenance until the Spring semester begins March 27.
