Philadelphia-Based Jeweler Hilary Hertzler Selected as Craft + Design 2019 Featured Artist

August 29, 2019 News

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond has selected Philadelphia-based jeweler Hilary Hertzler as the featured artist of its 55th Annual Craft + Design Show, which will take place Nov. 22-24, 2019 at historic Main Street Station.

Hertzler’s vibrant and textured necklaces, earrings and bracelets are woven with a variety of materials, including metal, fiber, beads and organic materials such as acai seeds. Many of Hertzler’s pieces include handmade, bisque-fired clay beads and beads sourced from artists in Nepal, Morocco and Brazil.

After graduating from Drexel University with a degree in interior design, Hertzler worked for over a decade in the world of interior design and architecture. Years spent designing and managing projects at a small architectural firm in Philadelphia helped her develop an eye for design and confidence in her craft.

This is Hertzler’s second year at Craft + Design. In 2018, she took home the Martin-Star Cabinetry and Design New Artist Award.

“Hilary’s designs are unique and stunning and her craftsmanship is extremely impressive,” says Stefanie Fedor, executive director of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. “Her work is an amazing example of what’s happening in contemporary craft in 2019.”

Hertzler travels to 12-15 craft shows each year and her work is available in galleries in California, Ohio, Delaware, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
