VisArts Accepts Submissions for Scholastic Art & Writing Awards from Richmond Student Artists

September 21, 2017 News

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond announces it will partner with the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards to recognize the work of Richmond area art students.

The Scholastic Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative students in grades 7–12. As the affiliate partner for the Richmond area, VisArts will receive submissions from students at schools in Richmond City, Hanover County, Henrico County and Chesterfield County.

The submission portal is now open and the entry deadline is midnight on Thursday, Dec.14, 2017. Submission fees are $5 per individual submission and $20 per portfolio. Categories include: architecture and industrial design, art portfolio, ceramics and glass, comic art, design, digital art, drawing and illustration, editorial cartoon, fashion, film and animation, future new, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video games.

Students will be notified of awards by early February. Art and writing submissions are processed and judged first at the regional level by a jury organized by VisArts. Some submissions will then advance to a national competition. In mid-February, VisArts will host an exhibition and award ceremony, showcasing the work of students who receive Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention Awards.
