Last January, Style Weekly broke the news that the nonprofit Visual Arts Center of Richmond had purchased a building at 1914 W. Main St. that was the former home of Fan Tastic Thrift, a longtime neighborhood institution. Vis Arts, known for hosting local art classes and exhibitions, had been outgrowing its headquarters on Main Street over the past decade. The purchase of this new 13,500 square-foot space, made possible by an anonymous donor, allows the nonprofit to grow its footprint by about 50% and expand just a half a block west of its current home, meaning they can increase their offerings to even more Richmonders. Since our story came out, Executive Director Jordan Roeder notes that Vis Arts already hosted its big annual fundraiser, Collectors’ Night, in their new building and were able to invite 100 more guests to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the event. “We are working with our architects now to envision the space and will be having conversations with our community in the coming months about its future,” says Roeder. “In the meantime, we are considering how we can use the space for other events or host other community groups.” There’s also a page on their website where anyone who wants to stay tuned on their plans and behind-the-scenes events can check in.
