Each year, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond selects four artists to serve as illustrators-in-residence. The artists illustrate a catalog and are invited to lead a workshop on the topic of their choice. Past illustrators-in-residence have included Chris Danger, Amelia Langford, Elizabeth Graeber, Katie McBride, Maria Fabrizio, Holly Camp, Jared Boggess and Victoria Borges.
Illustrators receive a $1,000 honorarium in addition to standard instructor fees associated with teaching a workshop. For the catalog, they are asked to produce one cover illustration and six spot illustrations. The illustration should touch one or more of VisArts’ 11 creative mediums:
- Digital Arts
- Drawing and Painting
- Metalwork and Jewelry
- Sculpture, Wood Art and Furniture Making
If you are an illustrator and would like to be considered for this program in the future, please e-mail a statement of interest, which should include a short biography, along with a link to your online portfolio to [email protected].
